Joseph Bertrand, a 6’4” combo guard who has committed to the University of Illinois, will be part of two all-star games this weekend. Friday he’ll take the court at the Chicago High School Classic All-Star Game. Then he’ll journey downstate on Saturday to take place in another all-star game in St. Louis.
The University of Illinois is bringing in a talented group of guards next year, including Bertrand. While he can play both guard positions, it’s quite possible Bertrand will end up seeing a large number of minutes at point guard.
“I’m just going to go in and try to get playing time,” Bertrand said. “It doesn’t really matter what position. I just want to do well.”
Bertrand plans to be in Champaign in June, where he’ll attend a couple of summer school classes and get acquainted with his new team and life at a big school.
“I know I have to keep shooting and lifting,” Bertrand stated. “When I talk to some of the other guys, that’s what we’re all doing right now, so we’ll be ready when the season starts.”
IllinoisHSPreps.Com will have game post-game scoring totals after Friday’s game.
