Most people that know of Sterling, Illinois don’t know they produce DI basketball players. The former head of the Sterling Warriors has resigned, but recently sent All-State guard Joseph Bertrand to the University of Illinois. Read here for a brief update on Goff.

Peter Goff has decided to take a different path and leave the Sterling boys’ basketball program. Rumor has it, he will be taking a job in the Bloomington area - but that has not been confirmed.

Goff has often been questioned about the play of Bertrand: How is his work ethic? Is he really that good? Goff is what a high school coach should be. In an earlier interview regarding Bertrand, Goff said, “He’s a great kid with a lot of God-given ability. Every kid is different and you can’t coach every kid the same. He will do well at Illinois.” According to Goff, each year he asked more of his star leader and he produced.

As their coach, Goff led the Warriors to back-to-back conference titles, going 19-1 in that time span.

Also of note: One of Goff’s closet friends is current Illinois men’s basketball coach, Bruce Weber.
